ECPSA General Meeting in Budapest

ECPSA  General Meeting in Budapest, October, 8 and 9, 2010

Press release

On October, 8 and 9, 2010 the European Confederation of Political Science Associations (ECPSA) will meet in Budapest for its 4th Annual General Meeting. It is currently a union of twenty-three national associations of political science in Europe.

ECPSA was established in 2007 to promote the discipline’s interests and pursue its professional goals across Europe. It seeks to make political science more meaningful in public debate and policy-making.

Among other things, the union of national associations is a reaction to the increasing harmonisation of the European higher education landscape. ECPSA creates a framework for the cooperation and exchange in Europe related to all aspects of political science as an academic discipline as well as its professional organisation.

ECPSA has defined a mission statement which can be found on its website (http://www.ecpsa.org).

In June 2008 the first elections of the executive committee were held in Valencia, Spain. The EC consists of representatives of the Finnish Political Science Association (Dr. Kia Lindroos), the Hungarian Political Science Association (Prof. Dr. Andras Bozoki), the Spanish Political Science Association (Prof. Dr. Pablo Oñate) and the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom (Prof. Dr. Neil Collins). Prof. Dr. Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer from the German Political Science Association is the first president of the ECPSA. At the General Meeting in Budapest the EC and the president will run for another term of office in order to further establish the Confederation.

Further information can be obtained from Felix W. Wurm, secretary general of the German Political Science Association (DVPW, c/o.  Dear ECPSA-colleagues:

Five weeks before our Annual General Meeting in Budapest I would like to
remind all those of you who have not registered yet, to please do so no
later than Monday, September 6. Felix Wurm has to finalize the hotel
reservations so we would greatly appreciate it if you could let us know when
you will arrive in Budapest and whether you will stay one or two nights.
From the enclosed list you can see, that 14 member associations have
registered so far. Please make sure that the reservations we made are
correct.

Attached you will also find the updated press release with our request to
put it on your website and publicize it in your newsletter. Since last week
the information on Bachelor and Master courses as well as civic education
together with the synopses are available on our ECPSA website
(http://www.ecpsa.org/). We circulated them some weeks ago for a final
check. If you have not had the chance yet to look at them please do so now
and let us know if alterations or amendments are needed.

Let me also remind you that we want to talk about my proposal for a European
survey on job chances and career patterns of the new Bachelor and Master
graduates in political science. For that purpose it would be very helpful if
you could find information on such studies in your country.

Furthermore, we agreed in London that each member association would provide
names of possible peer reviewers in accreditation processes. We should try
to assemble a list in Budapest.

Early next week we will send you two templates on the state of the Bologna
reform process -- or maybe already the "reform of the reform" -- and on the
job requirements of faculty as well as conditions for exchanging university
teachers and researchers. They may serve as little guidelines for reports
from our member countries.

I hope to welcome many of you in Budapest and look forward to our meeting
there.

Kindest regards,
Suzanne
